SPTF is pleased to announce an upcoming training of trainers on financial inclusion for refugee populations. This two-day training will take place September 28-29, 2016, in Brussels, Belgium.
As many of you know, the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) has been collaborating since 2015 with the Livelihoods Unit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to develop resources and build capacity in the area of financial inclusion for refugees. About a week ago, SPTF published draft guidelines for financial service providers (FSPs) on outreach to refugee populations. These guidelines present the sector's current understanding of best practices, as well as lessons learned from past experience and suggestions for addressing common obstacles and misconceptions.
We invite you to download the guidelines from the SPTF website, http://sptf.info/working-groups/refugee-microfinance, and welcome any feedback you may want to share. SPTF will incorporate public feedback into the final version of the guidelines, to be completed later this year.
The training of trainers in September will be based on these guidelines. Its purpose is to train technical assistance providers on how to work with FSPs to develop a strategy, conduct market segment research, implement supportive policies and systems, adapt products (as needed), and manage the provision of financial products and services to refugee populations.
Space is extremely limited. If you wish to attend, please email your CV to SPTF Deputy Director Amelia Greenberg (firstname.lastname@example.org), along with a 1-2 paragraph statement of interest that includes an explanation of how this training will be useful to your future work. Please send your request for registration no later than August 5, 2016.
There is no registration fee for this training, and SPTF will provide lunch and coffee break refreshments during the day. However, SPTF is unable to fund lodging and transportation for participants. Additionally, all participants must bring their own laptop computer. The training will be conducted in English.
