HIV/AIDS Microenterprise Development (HAMED)

 

Established: 2002

 

Goal

The HIV/AIDS and Microenterprise Development (MED) Working Group seeks to help SEEP members carry out their missions more effectively in the face of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. HAMED will accomplish this mission by taking the following actions:

  • Identify and document promising interventions to mitigate the economic impacts of HIV/AIDS on clients and their families.
  • Improving communication and understanding of the impacts of HIV/AIDS on microfinance institutions (MFIs) and their clients.
  • Encourage cross-sectoral communication and multi-sectoral linkages and partnerships.

 

Current Activities

The HIV/AIDS and Microenterprise Development Guide will provide guiding principles and recommendations for program design to help HAMED and the heathcare sector mitigate teh impact of HIV/AIDS.  It will provide strategic options for MFIs and guidelines for programmatic integration and cross-sectoral collaboration.  The guide will include case studies of promising practices that illustrate guidelines and design components.  The guide seeks to accomplish the following goals:

  • Encourage effective responses to the economic crisis in HIV/AIDS affected communities. 
  • Identify and document promising interventions to prevent and mitigate the economic impacts of HIV/AIDS.
  • Improve communication and understanding of the impacts of HIV/AIDS on MFIs and their clients.
  • Encourage cross-sectoral communication and multi-sectoral linkages and partnership.

Lessons Learned and Identified Strategies that Enhance the Participation of HIV/AIDS Affected Households into Productive Market

The intent of this paper is to present in a systematic manner lessons from practice that can inform improved BDS program development and delivery to HIV/AIDS affected households. The lessons learned from the current experience in the field were shared during a ten-day virtual information session, where one hundred and forty five individuals subscribed to participate.
