The HIV/AIDS and Microenterprise Development
(MED) Working Group seeks to help SEEP members carry out their missions more
effectively in the face of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. HAMED will accomplish
this mission by taking the following actions:
- Identify and document
promising interventions to mitigate the economic impacts of HIV/AIDS on
clients and their families.
- Improving communication
and understanding of the impacts of HIV/AIDS on microfinance institutions
(MFIs) and their clients.
- Encourage cross-sectoral communication and multi-sectoral
linkages and partnerships.
Current Activities
The
HIV/AIDS and Microenterprise Development Guide will provide guiding
principles and recommendations for program design to help HAMED and the heathcare sector mitigate teh
impact of HIV/AIDS. It will provide strategic options for MFIs and guidelines for programmatic integration and cross-sectoral collaboration. The guide will include case
studies of promising practices that illustrate guidelines and design
components. The guide seeks to accomplish the following goals:
- Encourage effective
responses to the economic crisis in HIV/AIDS affected communities.
- Identify and document
promising interventions to prevent and mitigate the economic impacts of
HIV/AIDS.
- Improve communication
and understanding of the impacts of HIV/AIDS on MFIs
and their clients.
