Pathways out of Poverty – Extending Outreach to Poorer Populations

SEEP is committed to increasing its membership’s capacity to significantly assist large numbers of the poor move out of poverty. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to bridge the operational divide that exists within the microfinance community between financial services and enterprise development, two strategies that are complementary but are too often developed in isolation from one another. This session will look at the range of practices (financial and non-financial services) evolving around a renewed poverty focus and some of the tools being utilized to measure progress toward meeting these objectives. We will also look at the current and potential roles of networks in this ongoing policy dialogue and how they can use their position in the industry to advance a pro poor agenda.

Moderator: Larry Reed, Executive Director, Microcredit Summit Campaign

J.D. Bergeron, Director, Seal of Excellence for Poverty Outreach
Allan Sicat, Acting Director, Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI)
Javier Vaca, Executive Director, Red Financiera Rural (RFR)
