Keeping Children Off the Streets in Ethiopia
Strive Case study presentation from the "Keeping Children and Families together through Economic Strengthening" symposium held on March 6th in Washington DC. This case study looks at the work of RETRAK to keep children off the streets in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. Retrak focuses its work on keeping children off the streets and provides life skills training, food and shelter, as well as reintegration with families. The economic strengthening activities include an income generation grant, training on business skills, parenting skills in cases of neglect and abuse, and village savings and loan associations using the Tear Fund Self Help Model. Practitioners involved in tracing and returning of children to their communities shared experiences on the emotional moment when children return to their villages and how they need time to adjust, as well as lots of psychosocial support and follow up.
