Description: The purpose of this Technical Training session is to provide workshop participants tools to disseminate to field staff the “Integrating Very Poor Producers Into Value Chains Field Guide.” The Field Guide provides a suite of tools for facilitating linkages between producers with suppliers and buyers. This includes vertical win-win relationships, trust in vertical relationships, factors impacting buyer and supplier linkages, learning and information flow in vertical relationships and working with the private sector. It also includes topics such as; horizontal ‘producer-to-producer’ linkages like trust in horizontal relationships, limited ability to take on risk, limited access to resources, lack of confidence, non-financial incentives to participation, exclusion of women and leveraging niche markets. Furthermore, this workshop will explore case studies on adapting value chain development tools. This will include practical worksheets and will address the implementation phase of the value chain approach. Copies of the Field Guide will also be provided electronically for those at the training to pass on within their organization.
The Field Guide has been developed based on feedback from workshops in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Haiti, Ghana, Malawi and Washington, DC. There are also case studies included in the Field Guide from Kenya, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Angola, Haiti and Bangladesh.
