SEEP's Learning Initiatives
With goals extending from the financial inclusion of women in developing countries to the adoption of ethical standards among all microfinance institutions, SEEP’s learning initiatives investigate the most pressing issues in the microenterprise development industry to find effective, replicable solutions.
Some initiatives are ongoing and seek to establish industry-wide standards over the course of several years, while others form quickly to meet an immediate learning need and then disband when that need has been met. All SEEP Network learning initiatives are organized within three Communities of Practice (CoP) which represent the major fronts of the microenterprise development industry: Financial Services, Association Development, and Enterprise Development. The three CoPs form a comprehensive learning framework that supports the cross-fertilization of ideas from SEEP’s diverse pool of experts and holistically advances the industry.

The SEEP Network’s Financial Services Community of Practice (CoP) seeks to build the capacity of the microfinance industry to sustainably increase its client outreach while offering a suite of beneficial financial services. Initiatives in this CoP have set standards and created tools for assisting microfinance institutions with managing challenges in operations and reporting. Initiatives have also explored financial services beyond credit, such as savings and youth products. 2011 Initiatives in this CoP:

The SEEP Network’s Enterprise Development Community of Practice develops and promotes pro-poor, market-based strategies for bringing about sustainable poverty eradication. Local markets are investigated for opportunities to strengthen value chains, foster productive livelihoods, and ultimately improve a community’s quality of life. 2011 Initiatives in this CoP: |
The SEEP Network’s Association Development Community of Practice (CoP) convenes the largest global community of microfinance associations – 59 microfinance associations, or 85% of associations worldwide, are SEEP members. Microfinance associations play a powerful role in advancing the industry, and developing their leadership is one of the most strategic investments that can be made in the sector. As the first organization to develop a strategic framework for improving the microfinance sector through association leadership, SEEP develops institutional strengthening activities, tools and resources in four areas: organizational effectiveness, member services, standards and indicators, and global community. 2011 Initiatives in this CoP: |
