Increasing Access and Benefits for Women: Practices and Innovations Among Microfinance Institutions, Survey Results
by Rani Deshpand and Deena M. Burjorjee in 2002
World Region: Global
The purpose of the survey was to assess the state of outreach to women in the microfinance industry and to take stock of innovations developed by practitioners to better serve this market. In addition to basic statistics on respondents' clients and portfolios, the survey asked questions about specific products and services that MFIs have developed to serve women, the ways in which these were delivered, the markets and clients targeted by the organization, and the outcome of these endeavors. In addition, the survey contains a section on women's economic roles in respondent countries in order to develop a picture of the conditions affecting women's success.
