The economic crisis of recent years, which also had its financial impacts, highlighted the need to emphasize the social responsibility of financial institutions in the allocation of resources and the proper treatment of customers, what passes for prevention of overindebtedness, transparency of information and other consumer protection principles promoted by the Smart Campaign. But beyond that, microfinance has social development objectives, perhaps the main one being poverty reduction, in line with the Millennium Development Goals, but also others associated with the development of human capabilities, such as the empowerment of women, increasing education and improving food security and health. Hence the name of the III Forum of Social Performance Management.
The purpose of this forum is the present the theory and the practice of the implementation of the Universal Standards for Social Performance Management, which are the basis for responsible finance and development-centered finance.
