Household Economic Strengthening Webinar

OVCsupport.net is hosting a series of webinars on prominent OVC topics. Funded by PEPFAR, these webinars are an opportunity for OVC implementers and experts to share information, promising practices, and strategies for improving programming for OVC.  Each webinar will feature presentations and guided discussions by OVC experts, providing a platform for global knowledge exchange.

Topic: Household Economic Strengthening Overview for OVC implementers

This webinar will:

  • Increase awareness and understanding of effective household economic strengthening practices in program design and implementation
  • Discuss economic pressures and constraints faced by OVC households and the economic strengthening pathway for OVC households
  • Explore interventions which support OVC households to rebuild capacity to spend money, build assets, manage money, and grow incomes

Jason Wolfe is Senior Household Economic Strengthening Advisor with the USAID Office of HIV/AIDS, where he supports PEPFAR country teams, projects, and partners to improve the economic circumstances of households caring for vulnerable children. Previously he served for five years with the USAID Microenterprise Development office promoting inclusive value chain development, managing the Enterprise Development Implementation Grant Program, contributing to knowledge management and collaborative learning efforts, and coordinating special initiatives with youth, HIV/AIDS-affected environments. Jason has 13 years of experience designing, managing, and assessing market development and technology transfer projects in 45 countries, with a particular emphasis on poor, rural, and marginalized communities.

Margie Brand specailizes in livelihood and economic strengthening for vulnerable populations. She has contributed to a number of USAID products around OVC, youth, livelihoods, poverty and value chain development. She has worked for or consulted to many of the leading donors, non-profit implmenters and private sector organizations operating in this area. She designed and directed the USAID Livelihood and Food Security Technical Assistance (LIFT) project. Margie is Senior Advisor for the SEEP Network. She has worked in over 20 countries; designed and managed over five large development programs; trained over 4,000 trainers; developed curricula which have now been translated into over 15 languages and used in over 35 countries; and has presented her learning and experiences at international conferences in over 50 settings. Margie founded EcoVentures International, which has taken a lead in conducting vulnerability and market assessments and leveraging linkages with the local private sector for the benefit of vulnerable populations. Margie is co-author of USAID's Economic Strengthening for Vulnerable Children Guidelines published in 2007, and has been part of the teams that have developed many of the livelihood frameworks and thinking governing this work today.
