Promoting Inclusive Markets and Financial Systems

Health and Market Development (HAMED) Webinar Series: Financing for Health Practitioners

Sponsored by  SEEP
Oct 17, 2013 (Thu), 11:00am-11:30am (ET)

The integration of health with market development provides practitioners with a substantial range of products and services that can serve the comprehensive needs of poor households. HAMED will be hosting a series of webinars that will serve as an introduction to the various strategies that market development and health practitioners are using to simultaneously meet the health and financial needs of poor households. These will be short “coffee break” webinars, lasting approximately 30 minutes in length. Each webinar will provide a brief overview of the landscape for each topic, followed by reflections from additional practitioners working in this area. At the conclusion of the brief practitioner panel discussions, audience participants will have the opportunity to pose specific questions. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the SEEP HAMED website for future access.

Financing for Health Practitioners

Thursday, October 17th at 11 ET

Speakers: Nhu-An Tran of Banyan Global, Anthony Cotton, USAID Office of Development Credit Authority (DCA), and Alemtsehay Meseret Gelaw from SHOPS/Ethiopia

Topic: Banyan Global, under the USAID-funded Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) program, has been working on increasing the sustainability of private health providers as a means to expand access to health services by the general population.  This webinar will discuss Banyan Global’s current experience in Ethiopia, where USAID has signed a DCA guarantee with two local financial institutions to expand lending to private providers of HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis services.  This is the first PEPFAR-funded DCA and the program is providing some emerging lessons that can inform future Health DCAs.
