Are We Not Peasants Too? Land Rights and Women's Claims in India
The report lays out the case for the importance of women owning the land they work (increased stability, preventing destituttion, achieving productivity, equality and empowerment) and then goes on to detail the obstacles to women owning land, including unfair inheritance laws, lax enforcement, persistent cultural norms of preferential treatment for males. The report concludes by reviewing the progress that has been made towards equitable legal and regulatory environments for land ownership during the past 20 years.
