An Introduction to the Client Protection Principles

Training Provider: The Smart Campaign

Date: Sunday, November 4

Description: The workshop is a three-hour training for participating microfinance institutions and networks to gain a comprehensive and consistent understanding of the Client Protection Principles and the Smart Campaign.  Upon completion of the training program, MFIs and Networks will be equipped to diagnose current implementation of the Client Protection Principles.  The participants will be able to identify institutional vulnerabilities, strengths, and begin to prioritize areas to strengthen their practices in area of client protection.  Networks will be able to exchange among their peers regarding successful implementation and advocacy strategies.  Finally, MFIs will be prepared to identify and begin to improve their client protection practices.
Space is limited to 25 participants in each training, so register now. 

Target Audience: MFIs, Networks, and Supporting Organizations. 

Trainer: Sergio Guzmán,  Lead Specialist, The Smart Campaign (English, Spanish) Lead Specialist

Mr. Guzmán has played a key role in the Center’s Smart Campaign since its early stages. He is currently the Smart Campaign’s representative for Latin America and the Caribbean. In those two regions, he has been responsible for developing networks, initiating partnerships, and conducting Smart Assessments. At the Center, Mr. Guzmán, has contributed to the writing and editing of Smart Campaign materials in English and Spanish and is also a frequent blogger. Prior to taking his post at the Center, Mr. Guzmán worked for the U.S. Congress’ Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs and the Inter-American Dialogue, a think tank.

Mr. Guzmán holds a bachelor’s degree in history and international relations from George Washington University.
