Youth Financial Inflows

Youth can receive their money from a variety of sources. However, there are some general commonalities among youth income across the world:

  • Most youth receive money from their parents and other relatives, either in the form of an allowance or leftover from shopping.
  • Many youth supplement their incomes through part- or full-time formal or informal labor.
  • Youth income flows are typically irregular and small. They often receive smaller and more frequent allowances from parents mainly for daily expenditures and larger and less frequent flows from parents or other family members during holidays, festivals, or migration.
  • Income flows of youth are often seasonal. It may be higher during holidays or harvest times, and lower following the holidays or when school resumes and parents must pay fees.
