#HerBreakthrough Campaign Twitter Chat

Dec 11, 2017 (Mon), 10:00am

2017 was a year of breakthroughs. Women in Saudi Arabia finally won the legal right to drive. Serena Williams became the first tennis player (and not just the first female player) to win 23 Grand Slam singles titles in the open era. There have been so many women breaking ground that Time magazine chronicled an entire edition of Women’s "Firsts" this year. But there have been legions of women who made their firsts quietly. Chipping away at age-old social and institutional barriers that have long restricted everything from when they eat to how they earn and manage money.

Through the online campaign, #HerBreakthrough, we are celebrating remarkable women making quiet breakthroughs every day. We are sharing their stories on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and www.grameenfoundation.org. We’ll conclude with a community Twitter chat on Monday, Dec 11 (10 a.m. EST). As we look forward to 2018, let us celebrate the "quiet revolutions" of 2017. Please share #HerBreakthrough posts and join us on Twitter Dec. 11 for a discussion marking the progress of women in improving their health, confidence, capacity and income, and exploring what more needs to be done to support #HerBreakthrough.
